Ivan and I have been married for just a little over 6 months now and it has been nothing short of a joyous journey. Being able to watch how the Lord has grown the two of us more and more into becoming one and to see how the Lord is shaping us into His image has been a beautiful picture of the gospel. I am so thankful that the Lord has given me this man to me. But what is even better is that through our relationship God has helped me see that Ivan is not the end, but instead Christ is.

I love Ivan not because he is cute, funny, and smart (though all of these things are totally a bonus), but I love Ivan because he loves me as Christ loves the church, he cares for me as his bride, he pushes me to know Christ more and not to find my fulfillment in our relationship, and so much more that I wish I could articulate.

The Lord helped me realize this Valentine's Day that today was not about roses and gift, expensive dates and unrealistic expectations, but instead it was an opportunity to serve my husband as he serves me, and as Christ came to serve.

So what better way to serve my husband than to fill his belly up with all his favorite foods? Ivan is Cuban and so I thought what better dish to make than vaca frita and homemade black beans with rice. To finish it off I made Ivan's favorite dessert, cheesecake—but not just any cheesecake; I made Nutella cheesecake with an Oreo crust and strawberries on top. Oh yeah!
